Symphony Orchestra

The oldest Orchestra in Poland – The Symphony Orchestra of Karol Namyslowski in Zamosc – was established on 4th November 1881 and named after its founder – Karol Namyslowski.

Until 1939 it was funded by the Namyslowski’s family. After the Second World War the Polish government took over the patronage.

Since 13th August 1944 the Orchestra has been acting as a rhythmical section, under the management of Stanislaw Splewinski, for The Art Enthusiasts Association in Zamosc.

13th August 1945 Stanislaw Bryk was chosen the Bandmaster of the Orchestra.
The Department of Arts and Culture in Lublin issued the permission for public performance with restriction that no jazz composition would be in the repertoire.

21st September 1945 the then Minister of Arts and Culture Wincenty Rzymowski issued the order to arrange the full complement of the Orchestra.

22nd January 1947 The Peasant Orchestra of Namyslowski’s Association was established, the charter and the regulations of the Orchestra were sanctioned.

7th May 1971 the Orchestra was renamed into The Peasant Orchestra of Karol Namyslowski.

19th October 1976, by the decision of the Minister of Arts and Culture, the Association was classified C category – an organisation of regional and local character.

27th June 1978 the Association was dissolved, its mint was transferred to The Government-owned Enterprise – The Peasant Symphony Orchestra of Karol Namyslowski (erected by The Governor of Zamosc) three days later (1st July).

25th February 1982 the Orchestra received a new name: The Polish Peasant Orchestra of Karol Namyslowski and in 1990 was granted residence with a Concert Hall in the monumental Lviv Gate.

Since 1999 the Orchestra has been functioning as a self-governed culture institution financed by The City of Zamosc.

28th January 2008 The Town Council passed a resolution to name the Orchestra: The Symphony Orchestra of Karol Namyslowski in Zamosc.

WOJCIECH SANDER (in the years 1985-86)
and again JÓZEF PRZYTUŁA (in the years 1986-2006).

Since 1st March 2007 the General and Artistic Director has been
TADEUSZ WICHEREK.

Many famous Polish artists cooperate with the Namyslowki’s Orchestra such as:

Łukasz Borowicz, Kaja Danczowska, Małgorzata Dybowska, Konstanty Andrzej Kulka, Bogusław Kaczyński, Waldemar Malicki, Henryk Miśkiewicz, Leszek Możdżer, Maciej Niesiołowski, Wiesław Ochman, Janusz Olejniczak, Piotr Paleczny, Sławomir Pietras, Zbigniew Raubo, Andrzej Sikorowski, Leszek Skrla, Jagoda Sokołowska, Stanisław Soyka, Dariusz Stachura, Jerzy Sterczyński, Marek Torzewski, Ewa Uryga, Sławek Wierzcholski, Jan “Ptaszyn” Wróblewski
, and many more.

The Orchestra has been performing in many cities of Poland, as well as in The United States of America, Canada, Germany, Austria, France, Bulgaria, Romania, Russia, The Czech Republic, Belarus, The Ukraine.

Since 1923 we have been conducting educational work for the young.

We have been the organisers and administrators of THE ZAMOSC FESTIVAL OF CLASSICAL MUSIC since its 12th edition in 1991.

Since 2000 we have been organising THE INTERNATIONAL MASTER MUSIC COURSES
and Since 2007 - THE ZAMOSC CULTURE FESTIVAL OF MAREK GRECHUTA.

In the same year we staged “The Haunted Manor” by Stanislaw Moniuszko in our town for the first time.

Since 2008 we have been the organisers of THE ITALIAN CULTURE FESTIVAL: “ARTE, CULTURA, MUSICA, E…”
